  • 1.  Install ASDK 1.4 on standalone Deployment Solution 6.9. This product requires NS ?

    Posted Aug 15, 2014 02:46 PM

    Hello,

We use a standalone DS 6.9 SP6 server. We are happy about the product. I'd like to create some custom tools using ASDK 1.4 for Deployment Solution 6.9

However when I run the excecutable altiris_asdkserver_1_4.exe file from http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/6_0/ on the deployment servers the installation stops with error "This product requires NS".

How can I get it round ?

    Thanks

    Tomasz

I believe you've got the wrong installer file. What you are probably are looking for is simply the Altiris_ASDK_1.4.exe file. Here is a link to a downloadable copy. That should allow you to install the Deployment Solution ASDK pieces.

    Thank you TGiles.

You would not believe how many hours I spent trying to figure it out. I have even installed NS 6 on the top of DS. Nothing worked. I do not understand why Symantec does not provide customers with any direct link for related dowloads for their products.

If DS 6.9 is supported all related files should be available for download too from official site, not from Google drive.

    Thank you again.

I am going to create some PowerShell based tools with GUI that will enable the end users to schedule the OS jobs on DS console. I hope it is going to work.

    Regards,

    Tomasz

Remember that ASDK 1.4 is linked with an old version of .net. Therefor is will only work on windows 2003, not windows 2008 or windows 2012.

Symantec does have the installer available from it's official site. However I've had the installer sitting in my download folder for years. It was easier to provide you with the link to my drive account then to go find the official download link.

I do agree that we need to make sure the installers are easier to find.

    XB,

You are correct that by default the ASDK version 1.4 won't install on to a Windows 2008 machine due to .NET version issues. However it is possible to get it to work. I've included a link to a Connect article I wrote a while ago on how to accomplish this.

I have seen that article to get it working on Win2008. However, Microsoft does not support it; so for us it';s a dead road.

@Tgiles, I bet you will not find it witin 5 minutes in the download section if at all :)

@XB, following your article and the article 2 year earlier, http://news.support.veritas.com/connect/ja/articles/setting-altiris-adsk-14-ds-69x-server-2008-r2 (wchich are pretty the same) I managed to get ASDK 1.4 working on Server 2008 R2. I can manage my DS tasks using PowerShell based Gui tool.

    Thanks.

We are planning to introduce Workflow Solution and automate some DS jobs too. I guess Workflow solution also depends on ASDK , so hard decision to make is coming in terms of long term support.

We are not moving to DS 7.1 SP1. Sometimes I do not get why Symantec takes out what is good from previous product version and then try to reinvent the wheel again.
