Install automation Partition

Wittawas Somboonsin's picture

Hi there,

I'm trying to install automation partition on client PCs. At the moment, I do this by creating .exe file and run it on client computers and it works perfectly. However, we have hundreds of computers and I don't think this is an effective way to install the partition.

Another option, which doesn't work for me, is selecting the target computers on DS console and go to --> Advanced --> Install Automation Partition then select pre-boot OS. However, when I do this, DS is trying to generate .exe file under C:\Program Files\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\BWPkgs, for example ap50000002.exe and this file is pushed to the client(s). The problem is all the drive mapping are not there (images are stored on remote SMB server) and when ever I start the imaging jobs, it won't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Create the package in BDC.

Andy,

It sound like you need to create your partition installation package in Boot Disk Creator (BDC) and then use a job to run it on the clients.

It is not a live event like the Right Click > Advanced way, but it is hands free.

During the creation part in the BDC, you can put in the mapped drive information there.

Hopefully that works for you.

re: Install automation Partition

What Shansen said should work, however, is there any reason why you wouldn't use PXE instead?  That way there is no need to keep the Automation Partitions updated.  I can see reasons for both ways, just pointing out that you may have other options that may be easier to maintain going forward.

install job

Or you could just us an install task with the package you already have created.  Then it doesn't create a new automation install but just uses the one you already know works.  That is currently what I do when I can't use pxe.  I would suggest testing this on a few computers.  If memory servers me correctly, it automatically reboots the computers once it finishes installing.
