  • 1.  Install of SEP successful, but after reboot client never reaches desktop.

Hi Folks, I sure could use some help with this odd ball PC.

    Migrating from Kaspsersky to Symantec.

Uninstalled all Kaspersky items on servers and clients.

Successfully installed SEPM 12.1 on server.

Successfully installed SEP 12.1 client on server.

Successfully installed client version on 12 workstation on network with push util.

Having a problem with one client Win7/32 bit install.

It appears the installation is successful, but when SEP asks to reboot PC to complete install, PC never makes back to network log on request.

Instead it hangs on a black screen showing cursor. I waited an hour.

Hard kill is the only way to restart system.

However, system will restart in safe mode.

Restored system back to previous restore point.

    Tried a 2nd time.

    Same thing happens.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Do you see the SEP installed, when in the SAFE Mode?

Did you follow the steps provided in the Article:

Steps to prepare computers to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client

In this case, Try Manually uninstalling SEP

How to uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client from Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2008 32 and 64-bit operating systems manually

    OR

Could you try uninstalling LAN drivers and reinstalling them back again.

    Hope that helps!!

There may be a possibility that SEP is conflicting with any other application.

    Do this

    1. Go to Safe mode
    2. Open Msconfig
    3. Check Hide all Microsoft service and then disable all of them and reboot
    4. Check and see if you can go in Normal mode.
    5. Once in normal  mode Only Select SEP and reboot and check if the machine comes up or not in normal mode

I tried the instructions given, but this did not work.

After re-installing SEP = computer hung.

    Rebooted in safe mode

    Disabled all, but microsoft services.

rebooted in normal mode = computer hung.

Restarted PC in safe mode. Can see SEP shield with green light on shield,as if nothing is wrong.

Tried to uninstall SEP in safe mode, but windows installer will not load up in safe mode.

I then restored PC to previous state, before SEP installation.

PC restarts in normal mode without issues...angry

Yes, I can see it when rebooting in safe mode.

    Shield with green dot.

Please check whether the port 8443 is able to telnet bi-directionally
