  • 1.  Installation of Endpoint protection 12.1 MP1 RU1 fails

    We have an unmanaged Xp Pro client that we are attempting to install Endpoint Protection 12.1 on.  The machine previously had version 11.  The installation fails with the following message:

     

    "The Wizard was interrupted before Symantec Endpoint Protection Client could be completely installed.  Your system has not been modified.  To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

     

    Any ideas?

    Go to Start >> Run and type %temp%

    In here should be the SEP_INST log. You can post here for review.

    Run Cleanwipe Utility 

    Note: It will completely remove the Symantec products installed. For more info kindly read the readme.tx file

    Now run the installation 

    It will succeed.

    cleanwipe can be got by opening a support ticket

    Ask them for the cleanwipe they will give you the fileshare account credentials for that..

    It will reboot the computer twice and succsssfully uninstall the product 

    Then try a fresh install

    Log findings:

     

    MSI (s) (DC:70) [21:42:11:156]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\MSI174.tmp, Entrypoint: CreateSepMasterService
    createSMS: Service 'SepMasterService' already exists, aborting install
     

     

    Note: You need to login as Local administrator:
     
    Delete these registry values:
     
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SepMasterService
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SmcService
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNAC
     
    • Reboot your computer now try to install
    • Right click run the setup.exe as administrator
    • Uncheck run this program with restricted access
    • Now it will install properly
