Installation Error - Permissions?!
Any help here would be appreciated. Another bloody installation error.

I'm getting fed up with posting problems with the installer here. I've followed the guide to the letter, several bits of which are wrong for a start. Another installation error means I still haven't really got to test the product.
PLEASE HELP.

This can happen for two
This can happen for two reasons.
First, if you started the install and left for a while and the session timed out. Second, if the install was aborted or quit for some reason. When you restart the install, you will be prompted to either start from the beginning or continue where you left off. If you select to continue where you left off, we have seen this error. Try clicking the Retry button and if that doesn't work, restart the install from the beginning instead of continuing.
I think in this case you
I think in this case you should add a third reason to it.
The install has definately not timed out as I was monitoring it all the way through the install, and I've hit this 5 or 6 times in succession. Complete uninstalls and removal of database didn't help. Following the install it takes less than 30 seconds for comfirming the data is right till I hit this error at what looks like the first stage of the install.
Also If I try again it'll install all the data (1st part of the install) as opposed to starting from the "load from file/custom install/full install" part of it. No matter what I do I hit this.
I've put the computer as an admin on the other server (NS7). Do you know what the error actually means, and what is it saying the problem is. It might help me sort this out, which of course is beneficial to symantec for bug fixes. This isn't the first install problem I've had, in fact it's the third. One could be noted as user error, but still, I've never found anything so difficult to install.. Even making a network install package for some crappily made cheapo nasty software that requires folder permissions, reg fixes, ms-kb uninstalls and dependecy checks was easier, and that's saying something. That at least got installed.... I'm not trying to slag anyone of here, It's just frustrating I can't get it installed without something going wrong. I've rebuilt the server once due to some other issue and I'm not prepared to do it again. Considering the money spent on software like this, shouldn't there be more support without having to pay the earth
Rant over. Apologies
AdrianC, could you clarify if
AdrianC,
could you clarify if you:
- Selected "Active Directory Authentication" instead of Native authentication during the setup
- You use SSL to connect to your NS and/or you use SSL on your Service Desk Server
I am having the same issues, but only if the combination of both setup options above is used.
Just trying to understand if our errors are related.
AdrianC - I feel your pain.
AdrianC - I feel your pain. I'm reaching a road block at the same point having the same errors. I've also wiped the server once and started from scratch with no luck. I also found errors in their guide - esspecially where they make no reference to the IIS configuration changes that need to be made to get passed the "ASP.NET" Check, or the fact that you have to grant NETWORK SERVICE rights to a temp folder. The lack of information about migration from 6.5 and generally about the install is horrible. Thanks Symantec, Sure glad you guys took over Altiris.
PeeGee > This happens for
PeeGee > This happens for both choices. I've settled for just native to get the installation done, but when you do and change the setting within the console it locks you out so it's just completely messed up. That was the time where I got it installed. whooppeee, but still with no funcionality.
There is also no SSL setup, just pretty much a basic install with only req. paramaters entered. The last time I tried was a few weeks ago and I've pretty much given up on this shoddy software till it's matured. In symantec terms thats what.. 3/4 years.
JeffPeters > I agree with the bad documentation. I noticed a few errors. Instructions relating to the AD setup is confusing to say the least. I knew about the IIS changes only because I've made those changes before for another bit of software but at least they mentioned it (and being open source they probably weren't getting paid to do it). I would be interested to know the NETWORK SERVICE change you made. I know I gave the SD machine full admin on the NS machine and vica versa, seemed to help somewhere.. In fact it just meant I got passed one error onto the next.
AdrianC, You had any luck
AdrianC,
You had any luck with this as yet?
I'm stuck on the same, and tried the same as you have.
