Installation Failed
Updated: 23 Sep 2010 | 2 comments
I'm trying to install Backup Exec 2010 on Windows 2008 sp2.
About three quarters through the installation I get a popup with the message "Installation Failed".
However, the installation completes and I'm able to run the software.
When I try to install the hot fixes, exactly the same error message popsup: "Installation Failed"
Then at the end it says "Installation Successful"
What's going on? Is it successful or did it fail? How can I troubleshoot and fix this?
Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Simon

Hi Simon,
First thing's first..where is it failing? If it is something like SQL Express, look at running that installation first. Then try the BEWS 2010 installation again.
Laters!

Hi Craig
Thanks for the response.
I tried to install it a few times and received the same "Installation Failed" messages every time. The first couple of times I let Backup Exec perform it's default SQL-Server installation but then I tried using an existing SQL-Server instance on another machine instead. Since I'm installing Backup Exec on a domain controller I thought that might have something to do with the problem. After all the installations completed, I examined the SQL-Server databases and they all appeared to be OK. Uninstalling Backup Exec between installation attempts always ran successfully.
The "Installation Failed" message appears during the 4th part and final part of the installation. I wish I knew exactly where and what was failing. The popup error message provides no hintsand the logs are hard for me to understand.
I'm installing on 64bit Windows Server 2008 sp2 with two options: online documentation and robotic tape library. Nothing else.
I'm not sure the best way to proceed now.
Cheers, Simon
