Installation question

When we first bought Deployment Solution, Notification Server was a separate module that we did not buy. Now we would like to try out Help Desk Solution that includes Notification Server. I was planning to install it on the same server as our Deployment Solution and am wondering if I should it install in the Program files\Altiris folder or if it should be in its own folder. I will want to use Notification Server now with Deployment Solution as well as Help Desk.

Thanks.

The default install directory

The default install directory will be fine. You will also want to install the Web version of DS. That will give you a Deployment tab withing the NS Console.

How many helpdesk users will you have?

There is no problem with using the default location as indicated above, as all of the Altiris solutions are mostly self contained (they share some infrastructure but rarely step on each other toes ;).

However I would question whether it is wise to put the helpdesk and DS together in the same system, as the use of one solution could impact the other.

Helpdesk can be quite demanding on resources (SQL, IIS) and DS can also have its needs (Depending on the jobs you run, AClients connected, etc).

In all cases, it can be done!
