Installation Question

I currently have SAVCE 10.1 installed on our network. I got the notification about upgrading to Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition 3.0. We're small so after looking at the upgrade process, I'd rather install a new End Point server and on a time-available basis manually upgrade users to the EP client and new server. In the Getting Started Guide, it says that if you have an existing installation of SAVCE you MUST upgrade. Is this true? Is there no way around that?

Go ahead un-install SAV and
Go ahead un-install SAV and SSC from server install SEPM Manager. Deploy SEP on all the client clients
or un-install SAV and install SEP on all the clients.
If you want you can first completely wipe out SAV from your network then start fresh with SEP.

The installation /uprade to SEP can be done in 2 ways:
1. Fresh Install of SEP after removing SAV
2. Upgrade over SAV

What happens if I leave the old SAVCE server up and clients on it and bring up the new End Point server and one-by-one remove SAV from the client and isntall the new EP client? That is a much gentler way to do it. It also lets me test EP before getting carried away.

I forgot to clarify something. The hardware that the SAVCE server is on is very old. I plan on putting EP on a new server.

That will be the best way as you can manage both at the same time in he migration process.
Leave SAV server as it is ..install SEP server and start deploying clients..once all clients have been migrated to SEP then either remove SAV server or un-install SAV from the server and install SEP on that too..
