Desktop Email Encryption

I searched for a solution to this and I see it's been a problem, but I haven't found a post with a clear solution.

We installed Desktop encryption (10.3.2 Build 15238 PGP SDK 4.2.1) on 4 laptops.  On 2 the set up for email encryption was bypassed for set up at a later time and those don't have any issues.  On 2 the set up was stepped through for each module of the encryption software and those laptops are having problems with the send/receive.  The green bar at the bottom gets stuck, so you need to hit the Cancel All button under the Outlook Send/Receive menu and then hit send/receive again if you want to get your emails.  We don't even use this product to encrypt emails so I'd like to disable in it's entirety.

I'm hoping this is a simple setting that can be changed, but I can't find anything in the menus to change that have an impact.  We tried uninstalling and reinstalling but there must be something left behind that the install recognizes because it doesn't bring us through the same set up as before.

If anyone can provide some plain english insight on how to fix, it would be much appreciated.  I have no tech experience as I'm in Finance so the simpler the better.

    Many thanks!

    Hello,

To disable e-mail encryption, Open PGP Desktop, on the menu bar click on Tools, Options, click on the messaging tab and uncheck the box for E-mail secure.  This will disable the email encryption for PGP.

    Thanks

Thanks for the quick response, Anthony!  I looked there and it's already unchecked.  Any other thoughts?  It's only since I installed the product that I and the other person have been having this issue.

    Hi MrsForty,

If you want to do a clean install since the last two setups worked for you.

First un-install your PGP product and reboot your computer.  If hard drive is encrypted then the drive would have to be un-encrypted before un-installing the product.

Go to your Windows run and Type %appdata%. A Roaming folder should appear and click on the folder.  A window opens with a list of folders and look for PGP Corporation folder.  Delete the folder.  This folder holds the policy and prefs file of what your settings were when PGP was un-installed.

Re-install your PGP software and the install should be like a brand new install.

If this doesn't resolve the problem then this maybe an issue with the LSP protocol that PGP installs on the computer which has caused some e-mail issues. This can be resolved by disabling the component at install which you'll have to call Techincal support so they can do a webex to help you disable this.

Tech Support is all live call to help assist you with your PGP

    Thanks

    Hi Anthony,

It didn't work, although the send/receive bar getting stuck does seem to be less prevalent.  I'll call tech support.

    Thanks for your help!!!

    Hello,

Try and reset your Winsock to remove the LSP protocol for PGP.

Open Windows Command Line with Admin rights.

At the command line type netsh winsock show catalog > Cat.txt

This command will bring you back to the prompt and then type.  Creating a text file to look at Winsock.

notepad Cat.txt and notepad will open with the Winsock Catalog and check to see if PGP is the only Layered Service Provider.  If PGP is then at the Prompt type.

    1. Netsh, Press Enter

    2. Winsock, Press  Enter

    3. Reset, Press Enter

Windows will prompt you to reboot the computer which windows will remove the LSP provider from the Winsock and rebuild the network stack without it.  Test your e-mail.

These steps are for users who do not use E-mail encryption.

    Thanks

    Anthony
