  • 1.  Installing 32bit client on 64bit machine

    Posted Feb 23, 2012 08:07 PM

I was going through our unmanaged computers and found 2 Windows 7 Pro x64 machines that needed installation packages installed.

I selected the clients and then began the installation which succeeded, but when I looked the installation client selected was the 32bit version of our installation package.

Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall the correct installation package. I was reading and found that the 32bit installation blocks the 64bit, and articles discussing uninstalling the client involved registry editing. Is there not a way to manage the installations from the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager?

    We're using version 11.0.5002.333.

I'm not sure the "product" I've selected is correct but it will not allow me to leave that field blank.

    Hi,

    first try the easy things:

    - uninstall SEP from the control panel

    - install the correct package

note: if you have Windows 7 SP1, you need at least SEP 11 RU7.

In case of problems, call the tech support to get the removal tool.

You can manage installations and migrations from the console, not uninstallations.

    Hello,

I am sure, the Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5002 32 bit package could not be installed on 64 bit machine??

I would suggest you to Migrate to the Latest Version of Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.7101 and go with AutoUpgrade Feature, where in you can Migrate all the clients to the Latest version without any issues.

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.7101 (RU7 MP1)

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH171552

    Upgrading clients by using AutoUpgrade

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH96789

    Again, I agree with Beppe.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 Release Update 5 (RU5) or higher is supported on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. However,

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 Release Update 7 (RU7) and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 or higher is supported on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP2.

    Check this Article:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/windows-72008-r2-sp1

I would request you to Migrate to the Latest Version of Symantec Endpoint Protection ie; Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.7000 and then to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.7101

    Hope that Helps!!

Disable UAC and then try installing the SEP client.
