Installing Additional Module to Antivirus Only

Created: 06 Jan 2008 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 1 comment
I have currently SEP 11 Antivirus ONLY deployed to 80 clients.
1. How can I install additional component such as Network Threat Protection to some clients I choose? I want a solution that can be deployed from SEPM without having to go to each client's computer
2. How do I deploy MR-1 patch to all clients? I have sucesfully patch MR-1 to SEPM for sure. However, I am not sure how to proceed deploying to clients. I dont want to go each client to install the single setup package of MR-1.
Thank You

SEPM currently doesn't have a good way to just patch or update an update for a SEP installation.
1)  The easiest way to add a component is to export a new package with the new component added and then push it out to all of the clients.
2)  Same as number 1.  The way that I did this was to create a new package, export it,  and pushed it out to the clients.  Alternately, there is a patch version for MR1 (clients only) which is in the form of a .msp file.  It weighs in at around 12MB.  Platinum support customers have access to this through FileConnect.  Gold or below support customers can start a support case to get access to it.  The final means of getting all of your clients updated to MR1 is to wait.  On or about the 14th, there will be a patch disseminated through LiveUpdate that will update your client systems.
Now how do you push an exported package out to clients?  There are several means.  When you create the new package for export, be certain to set it for silent install.  You can use the Symantec Push Install Wizard.  There are also many 3rd party system management products which can push out a package for install like SMS, but they tend to be expensive.  My favorite cheapo method is the freebie PSExec which you can set to run on multiple systems set in a text file.
