Hi All,

Anyone can please tell me that can we install BE 2010 Media Server on Windows 2008 Hyper-V -virtual machine which have Windows 2008 Server installed? is there any Tap Library detection or backup issue to use Hyper-V.

Thanks

Agha

Hi,

It won't be an issue installing BE on a VM...however, AFAIK Hyper-V doesn't do SCSI pass-through, and Symantec will simply tell you that you have an unsupported solution. They will refuse support unless you can reproduce any issues you're experiencing in a physical environment.

Thanks!

Thanks.

So it means it is not supported by Symantec but it works in VM. our tap library is connected physically with server not VM so will VM and BE software detect automatically.

can you please advise what is your recommendation, can we go with VM or physical machine.

Thanks

Agha

I've had it work on VMware but it caused a lot of grief when the tape library dropped out of Windows on the VM, causing the restart of a host!

Connecting the library to a host means you still need to present it to the VM...hence SCSI pass-through which I don't think Hyper-V supports.

Thanks!
