Hi,

If the server running Server 2008 R2 with SQL is physical, put it on that. Symantec does not support running Backup Exec on a virtual media server.

Thanks!

Hi,

see this SCL for Backup Exec's operating system compatibility.  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH175581

did it but can't see the VM

how to add it

You don't need to use SQL. BE will install SQL Express which won't impact SQL.
To see the VMs, you need to point it to the ESX host, or the Virtual Center server. The VC would need a RAWS agent installed on it.
Thanks!

Nir_l228,

I apologise for the confusion, It is not recommended to install Backup Exec on a virtual machine.

I put the SCL link so you could find out what operating systems could be installed on the workstations that would support the install of Backup Exec.

...if you have a VSS error, check which server this is happening on.

Open a command prompt on that server, and type:

vssadmin list writers

These writers must be stable and running. If not, a server restart will fix this. You need to run the backup job after that.

Thanks!

Nir,

You can not backup Esxi host machine using Backup exec 2012. You can only backup the guest machines.

Thanks
