  • 1.  Installing a New Management Server on W2008 R2 64 Bit

    Posted Jul 19, 2010 03:09 PM

I'm trying to install a new management server and restore my database from a W2003 server to the new server but running into some issues. The database restored without errors but when I try to setup replication to the new server it fails. On the new server I can't seem to get the manager console service to start.
Can anyone point me to a guide or doc on this. I also get a message about a keystore file after the database restored. Never done this before.
I'm hoping maybe I'm just missing a step? Installing version 11.0.6
Am I doing this the best way?

I hope you are following disaster recovery best practices

Well first try running Management server configuration wizard once.
from Start -Programs -Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager --Management server configuration wizard

before replication we need to check why the service on server 2 is failing
what is the server os which fails the service?
check in the symantec endpoint manager logs folder you should find scm.server log which would give u some clue

wrt to keystore, put those files from older server to new server in these places refer this doc

Yes I was following the best practises, stopping the databases and such. New server is running W2008 R2 this is the server that the service is failing.

When you say run the server configuration wizard, do you mean on the new server or the olde server where I'm supposed to setup the replication?

I will copy the keystore files over.

Thx for the link. I will follow these instructions and try again. I did try this but I was trying to setup from the old server not the new server.

Thx guys for the information and links. I got it working now mostly by following the doc link by Vikram.
Ended up I didn't have to copy over the database and restore it and the keystore files. Just followed the one document and it replicated everything over to the new management server.
I will leave it alone for the night and then delete the old SEPM off the old server.
