  • 1.  Installing SEP over slow links

Our SEP infrastructuure is taking shape and am able to deploy to clients.

I have some servers situated at sites where the link from SEPM manager is slow (512k)

I would like to manually install the client on servers where slow links are in place. I created my install packages, can i just copy this package to the server and install? How do I then make it managed to receive updates/policies etc?

Signature updates will will be small enough in size to deploy out to these servers from SEPM. (Will be looking at GUP later for client deployment at remote sites)

    Thanks all

How to change a Symantec Endpoint Protection client from unmanaged to managed

1.Copy of the file Sylink.xml from the server from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\( Numbered folder)
    2. On the client computer , click Start > Run, type smc -stop, and click OK.
    3. Copy the Sylink.xml into the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection folder, and replace any existing Sylink.xml file.
    4. Click Start > Run, type smc -start, and click OK.

Yes, the suggested KB will work for RU5 -- but there are other options.
If you login to the console and go to
Admin --> Install Packages --> Client Install Packages --> (Select a 32 bit or 64 bit package) --> Task: Export Client Instal Package...
You can export a client installation package that will include policies and make the client managed. It's easy -- it even bundles the package into a single executable so all you have to do in copy and run a single "setup.exe" file.

There are several options when exporting that may not seem very obvious that you may like to know.
    a) Pick the customised installation settings below:
This option lets you set things like, silent install, force reboot, no reboot, install path, etc. You can chose the default option set, or you can create your own option set by going under the "Client Install Settings" option under the Admin --> Install Packages area.
    b) Select the featres you want to use:
For a server, you may not want all the components, for example, TruScan Proactive Threat Protection does not run on Server OSes, so you may not want that component to install. You can specify the component set by going under "Client Install Fetaures Sets" under the Admin --> Install Packages area.

Next, under the "Policy Settings" area, be sure to select "Export a managad client". You can then select the group who's policy will be included with the client package, and whether the client should join that group automatically.

After you click OK and the package is generated, you can install the package anywhere and the settings you've specified will be used.
