  • 1.  Installing Sep11 client on Exchange 2000 best practices.

    Hi
I want to install SEP Client 11.0.5 on an windows exchange server 2000.

The exchange server is already running SA 10.1 client without problems.

Is there a best practices guide for Exchange 2000 and anything i need to look out for in paticuler?

I have seen the post for the best practices on Exchange server 2003 but thought there may be some differences for 2000.

    Any help is greatly appriciated.

Only install Antivirus and Antispyware portion of SEP on Exchange server. EXchange exclusion are done automatically by SEP 11.x
So as Best Practise I would recommend install only Antivirus and Antispyware..
Microsoft is going to stop releasing updates from windows 200 so best would be to migrate to 2003.

Vikram is right, although we had one or two folders that were not automatically excluded.  You may follow this is you wish to be safe:

If you have Exchange installed, perform the relevant file-based scanning exclusions listed in Knowledge Base articles:
KB328841 - Exchange and antivirus software
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328841
KB245822 - Recommendations for troubleshooting an Exchange Server computer with antivirus software installed

    Hi Leer,

Please do take advantage of the latest improvements by deploying the new RU6 to that server instead of RU5!

SEP 11 (RU5 or RU6) should apply exclusions without any difficulty on Exchange 2000.  (Just a word, as an Exchange Admin: I recommend migrating to Ex2003 if you are stuck with 32-bit architecture, or to Ex2007 or Ex2010 if you have a 64-bit server available.  Exchange 2000 lacks a lot of the capabilities of the later MS releases.  I've never missed Ex2000 since upgradign away from it many years ago.)

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

    Thanks for replies guys.

All your comments will be taken on board.

I will install the RU6 as you mentioned but for the short term there is no chance of upgrading the server to exchange 2003/07/10.  As much as I would like to this is out of my hands.

I will try to get this done over the weekend and post back if any problems.
