Installing SIM 7 on Windows Server 2008R2

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am trying to install SIM 7.0.354 on a Windows Server 2008R2 x64, but an error message comes up saying that SIM requires WIndows Server 2003 or the latest version, and my OS is not.  I found that strange, because it is a Server OS, and is the latest beta version.

I tried running it in WIndows Vista compatibility mode, and did not recieve that error message, so I thought that solved the problem, but there was another problem.
Setup informed me that it needs Windows Installer 3.1, and attempted to install it, but failed.   Is there a way to tell it to use the latest Windows Installer that comes with Server 2008R2?  I believe it comes with WIndows Installer 5 (msi.dll version is 5.x).

If all else fails, does this product work with Windows Server 2008?  Or do I need to use the legacy Server 2003?

Thanks!

I believe its 2003 only...

From what I remember on reading the latest tech docs and speaking to some Altiris employees, they all recommend 2003 still.

Do you know when Server 2008

Thanks for your help.  Do you know when Server 2008 / 2008R2 will be supported?

There is no listed timeframe

that I am aware of. At best, I would look for SP1, however I don't have a timeframe for that either.

Is that a solution?

Hi Andrew, I beg your pardon, but I would not consider your memo as a SOLUTION ! Keep this Forum open & come back later on with a "date", and so than, you'll welcome as a true SOLUTION.

Solution

Andrew's comment does answer the initial post's question, however, if / when an answer is posted concerning the availability of CMS on Server 2008, we can note that here as well.

How can only supporting

How can only supporting Windows 2003 x86 be remotely acceptable?  I haven't installed x86 on a server for over 2 years. This day in age Symantec needs to start supporting the latest OS on a limited basis within 30 days of release and full support within 90 days, if not sooner.  Continuing to delay support and not giving release dates is going to make customers look at alternative solutions.
