Installing a trial version of V-Ray

Created: 26 Jul 2013 • Updated: 29 Jul 2013 | 16 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have downloaded the Backup Exec 2012 "all editions" ISO - BEx64-DVD-1798.17a.HF1c.SP1a (this is what gets downloaded when you follow the V-Ray trial edition link).
When I try to install V-Ray, I only get the following options:

* Backup Exec 2012
* Agent for Application and Databases
* (Maintenance) Agent for Applications and Databases
* (Maintenance) Backup Exec 2012

There is no V-Ray option and I haven't been sent a serial number by e-mail.

Can anyone help?

...it would be the agent for VMware/Hyper-V you want to trial.

Thanks!

EDIT: Otherwise check below, but your ISO should have all you need:

Unfortunately, there is no agent for VMware/Hyper-V, only the options I mentioned in my last post.

Thanks

V-Ray option is just a name

it includes

1 vmware and hyper v license

1 application and database license

1 deduplication license

You dont have a serial number for Vray or a differnt setup ISO  for VRay

All the optinos togather makes a VRAY edition

It means you are missing the slf file/serial number you are using does not have this option integrated

If you forget something, edit your earlier post and add it in.  Don't use multiple posts.

MusSeth's picture

as per you post above and in addition to craig and kunal

* (Maintenance) Agent for Applications and Databases
* (Maintenance) Backup Exec 2012

Please contact our licensing team to get the other required license if entitled to.

The other option is to download the BE trial from www.backupexec.com.  Click on the trialware section.  You will get the AVVI and Hyper-V agent.  You can then apply your serial numbers when you receive them later.

Ok, can someone please confirm if the Backup Exec 2012 "all editions" ISO - BEx64-DVD-1798.17a.HF1c.SP1a I have downloaded is the correct file?
As I said in my original post, this is what gets downloaded when you follow the V-Ray trial edition link.

I understand the licencing but again, as I said, when I try to install V-Ray, I only get the following options:

* Backup Exec 2012
* Agent for Application and Databases
* (Maintenance) Agent for Applications and Databases
* (Maintenance) Backup Exec 2012

There is no V-Ray option and I haven't been sent a serial number by e-mail.

Yes the iso looks correct, just that after installing live update to Sp2

Can you clarify what do you mean when you say "when I try to install V-Ray"

Edit :

I am assuming you have not received all the serial numbers relevent to Vray

Please contact Symantec Licensing and get this sorted

I don't get the option to install the agent for VMware/Hyper-V. I only get the options I mentioned in my previous posts.

Marco: since this is in trial mode, completely uninstall BE 2012. Once done, use the ISO you've just downloaded to reinstall BE 2012 and load SP2. Then try again...

Thanks!

SOLUTION
Marco199's picture

I have completely uninstalled BE 2012, restarted the server, installed BE 2012 again using the downloaded ISO and I still do not get the agent for VMware/Hyper-V option...
Is Symantec really expecting to sell any copies of V-Ray if even trying to install a trial version takes days?

Are you not able to see this check box?

Further clarifying/reiterating what Kunal mentioned, each license of Backup Exec 2012 V-Ray Edition includes:

1. One Backup Exec 2012 Media Server License (which you have already recieved).

2. Agent for Applications and Databases to protect an unlimited number of virtual guqests (which you have already received).

3. Agent for VMWare and Hyper-V (missing license).

4. Deduplication option (missing license).

Based on the amount of licenses you have, the license for ‘Agent for VMWare and Hyper-V’ and ‘Deduplication option’ are missing. You can contact the Symantec Licensing Team at +44 (0) 870 606 6000 (for United Kingdom. Press Option 1 and then Option 2 on hearing the IVR).

Thanks Kunal, after reinstalling BE 2012, I didn't go as far as this screen; I was expecting to see it at the serial number input stage.
