  • 1.  Interface and IP address questions

    Hi,

I’ve a few questions. Could anyone advise me please?

    1. If I enabled both physical interfaces (eth0 and eth1), what interface would SBG use to do its operation tasks such as LDAP synchronization, liveupdate?

    2. Can I change SBG interface IP address such as eth0? Do I need to change any setting else?

    Thanks,
    Nitass

    Hi Nitass,

I believe the SBG automatically determines how to best route the traffic depening on what the destination is.  For example if it's running Liveupdate, it's going to try to get out through the gateway, if a Control Center needs to contact a Scanner on the internal network, it will connect from whatever IP can contact that Scanner.

You should be able to change the IP with no issues.  Make sure the environment is prepared for the change, eg. if your firewall is NAT'ing inbound SMTP traffic to the old IP, make sure to change it, or if your mx records are pointing directly to that interface this will need to be changed.

    Kevin,

Regarding the first question, do you know which interface the SBG is going to use if both interfaces (eth0 and eth1) are on the same subnet? I have not seen any interface binding configuration when I added default gateway for the SBG. Could you please advice?

    Thanks again,

    Nitass

Actually I couldn't say Nitass and I don't think it's configurable, if you need to find out, you could use Wireshark to capture the traffic and figure out which interface it is.
