I'm trying to follow directions here for setting up an internal SEP Update server for 50 Macintosh clients.

After many trials, I Emailed Symantec support and received the following:

    Hi SEP User,
Endpoint protection do not support GUP (Group update provider) feature for Mac. So you can only configure windows operating system to get update from Server.
Please refer to below links for more details and FAQ for MAC support:
Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh Frequently Asked Questions
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH134203
If you have any further issues please reply to this email and i will get back to you as soon as possible.

I know it's a longshot, yet is there any way to setup SEP 12.1 to update Macintosh clients internally on our network?  Having all the Mac clients updating from external Live Update server can be taxing on our network.

If there isn't a solution is anyone aware of any COnnect Forum ideas that address my problem?

    Thanks.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh 11 client does not update virus definitions from a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager or Group Update Provider. The Macintosh client will need to retrieve updates directly from a LiveUpdate server. This server can be the default Symantec LiveUpdate server, or an internal LiveUpdate server maintained by the system administrator.

    Reference:

Will a managed Symantec Endpoint Protection for Macintosh client update virus definitions automatically from a SEPM or GUP?

    Q. How can I configure the SEPM to supply definitions to SEP for Mac clients?
    A. Unfortunately, the SEPM is not able to host or make available content (definitions or product updates) for SEP for Mac clients. All updates must occur through LiveUpdate, either from Symantec's servers, or from an internal LiveUpdate server using LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA). Please see 'Using the LiveUpdate Administrator on a PC to download updates for Symantec Endpoint Protection/Symantec AntiVirus 10 for Macintosh clients' for information on how to configure LUA for this content. Note: it is not recommended or supported for LUA and SEPM to be on the same physical server.

    Q. Can a SEP for Mac client get updates from a Group Update Provider (GUP)?
    A. No, for the same reasons outlined above.

    Q. Can a SEP for Mac client act as a GUP?
    A. No.

    Q. How do I get Rapid Release definitions onto my SEP for Mac client?
    A. Rapid Release definitions are not available for Mac security products. There is an Intelligent Updater, however.

    Hi Layne,

I recommend setting up a LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x server on a Windows server in your network (not on the SEPM, though!).  LUA downloads the definition files once, and then makes them available locally for all the SEP for Mac clients to come and collect.

Here's an article that will help:

How to set up Macintosh clients to download updates from an internal LiveUpdate server

And a couple about LUA 2.x in general:

Managing LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x Space Usage

Definitely ensure that all your SEP for Mac clients are runnig the latest version of SEP 12.1 or SEP 11 - any that are running the old SEP 11 RU6 releases should be upgraded to take advantage of the latest improvements.

Also: definitely make sure that you configure LUA just to download what you need (SEP for Mac defs) and not the whole SEP product!

Do keep this thread up to date with your progress for the benefit of future Mac admins!

    Thnaks for the info.

I guess I'd like to update all clients (Mac and Windows) now that I have some way to figure out how to do it...

My question is, where do I download the latest installer for Windows?

    Thanks!

    Hi Layne,

Just contact Technical Support if LUA 2.3.1 is not on the SEP 12.1 product materials that you have.  They will give you the download instructions.

Or, if you'd like to test the very latest code, you can install the beta of LUA 2,3.2:
