I am using Internet Explorer 8, version 8.0.7100.0, and trying to access my Symantec Management Console version 7.0.7270 on Notification Server version 7.0. The problem I am experiencing is that it automatically logs me into the console. Since I am responsible for administering the console, I need to test different user types and their access priveleges. However, I cannot find a way to stop the console from auto-logging me in. I have cleared the stored passwords, cookies, and everything else IE8 lets you clear, but still no joy.

First question, does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

Second question, why isn't there a logout feature in the console? Or is there one, and I just can't find it?

Log in to a PC locally and it should prompt you for credentials.

that makes it an 'internet' request instead of a local, and you should be prompted. At least that worked with IE6 and 7. I still have issues from time to time with IE8, and invariably end up running in compatibility mode.

I believe that I already am using the FQDN.

    1. Try adding the console to your "Trusted Sites" security zone instead of the Local Intranet.  IE by default should only enable auto-logon in the Intranet zone.
    2. Set the "User Authentication"  setting in IE's security to "Prompt for user name and password" (go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security tab -> select Local Intranet -> Custom level... button -> Scroll to the bottom where you see User Authentication).
    3. You could use Runas.exe to run IE as a different user (runas.exe /user:domain\Userid "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe").  I have had some issue with this in IE8 and had to make a registry change to force IE to open a new window with different user credentials.  In researching this again just now, it seems it may have been "fixed" in the IE cumulative rollup from October 2009, but if not, see this page.

Idea 1 in your list worked for me. I did not need to try the others. Thanks Kyle!

Just wanted to add since I had the same problem. Instead of using the Shortcut just Open your browser and instead of using "local host" enter your FQDN server.domain.com
That will prompt you each time to log in

Why not put a shortcut to IE8 in the Quick Launch bar and use right-click | Run As.

There's also an option in the Security Zone settings (right down at the bottom if I remember correctly).
User Authentication | Logon set it to Prompt for  user name and password.

    wogdog,
Glad I could help.  Lots of ways to skin this cat. Good luck!

Andy: I think I made both of those suggestions already.  Also the shortcut you make to IE8 has to be made directly to the .exe file; the "special" shortcut MS creates on the desktop (some sort of Windows installer shortcut or advertisement) is not Run As-able AFAIK.
