This issue has been solved. See solution.

Dear community,

When I attempt to backup my vm's in vmware I have this error:

V-79-57344-38277 - Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine.
VixDiskLib_Open() reported the error: Invalid connection handle

I am using Backup Exec 2012

Steps I have tried:

- Use NBD for transport mode only.

As attached is the job log.

What could be the cause?

What version of ESX are you using?  If it is ESX 5.1, then it is not currently supported.  See

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/vsp...

Also, you would need a licenced copy of ESX.  BE uses the vStorage API which only comes with the paid version of ESX.

Issue solved. Forgotten to update this thread.

Turns out my esxi host and vcenter becomes "unlicensed" for no reason. Re-activated it and backup resumes.

Thanks everybody! Happy new year!

Edit: pkh is right. Need ESXi host to be licensed.
