I’m not clear what notifications Touchdown is supposed to give on iOS when a new email is received, or to alert of an appointment.

We’re using “regular” Touchdown and are using ActiveSync talking directly to Exchange so there is not MDM solution or other products involved.

Should we be seeing notifications when new mail arrives if Touchdown is running in the background – we don’t want people to have to manually check for new mail and appointments etc.

I’ve read the documentation and it’s unclear how this works on iOS (I use Touchdown for Android and notifications work perfectly).

TouchDown on iOS does not have the ability to instantaneously receive email as in Android. This is because iOS does not allow the application to continuously hold connection to the server when the application is not on the foreground.

However it also utilizes a background fetch mechanism which allows background fetch of email, but the only catch is that iOS will automatically determine when the fetch happens. So while the app is in the background you may see email notifications less regularly, i have observed this to happen with somewhere between 10-20 minutes. The way iOS determines the frequency is also based on how frequently and when you typically use the application, and the more frequently you use it, the less the interval
