Client Management Suite

Good Morning,

Our company uses Altiris 7 and I would like to know if Altiris Agent Aclient or Dclient is compatible with Apple products such as Mac computers, iPhones, and iPads.  We are interested on deploying iPads and we would like to manage them remotely through Altiris Deployment Console.  Through deployment console, our company manages all of our computers (Windows OS) and we would like to do the same for iPads.  Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.

You cannot run the agent, but you can track them.  Just create a new Resource Type and you can use asset management to track them.

There is currently no agent and will most likely never be an agent for the iPad.  Apple is pretty strict with developers adhering to their API's, not to mention any application installs would have to go through the App Store and not a third-party program like the Altiris Agent.  (This is why several people like to jailbreak their iPhones and iPads).

The most you are going to be able to do is manually track them as assets like you would have to do with monitors, cell phones or any other agent-less asset.

Actually there are a small number of vendors that offer inventory and management systems for iPhone now.  I wouldn't doubt that Symantec is too far behind on that. 

With the release of iOS 4, Apple introduced Mobile Device Management (MDM).  This is essentially a set of API's that allow management software to "control" the device.  I would be interested to know what functionality you would like to see Symantec provide.

Audit and set Security settings
E-mail configuration settings
Inventory

MBHarmon hit it on the head.  Inventory would be huge, at the very least.

Symantec recently released  BETA of Mobile management Solution 7.1 which has capabilities to manage iPhone/iPads & iPods.

Please do get in touch with your altiris contact person to find how to obtain the Mobile Mgmt Solution 7.1
