This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,
In preperation for a prod upgrade I am currently completing an upgrade in a dev environment and am running into some issues and thought I would see if anyone had ideas as to what might be causing this. I am upgrading a single EV server from 7.5 SP5 to 8.0 SP2. There are no issues with the EV upgrade, it is working fine but when I upgrade DA from 7.5 SP5 to 8.0 Sp2 I am not able to access the the evbaadmin site to upgrade becuase the accelerator manager service will not start. I have verified that the license is ok and there are no errors or warnings in the event log. Pre-reqs all seemed to be ok. What am I missing??

Thanks!
Travis

Upgrading to 8.0 SP2 in DA

Upgrading to 8.0 SP2 in DA causes issues

You first need to go to 8.0 or 8.0 SP1 then go to SP2

It is not in the doc's

It is not in the doc's support told me.

What happens is that the tblRole table is not created in each of the customer databases

8.0 or 8.0 SP1 does create this table

update

Ok so I monitored the EV Accelerator Manager Service from the start of the upgrade and it looks like it dies after the EV upgrade from 7.5 SP5 to 8.0 SP2 insted of durring the DA upgrade. According to the compatibility chart DA 7.5 SP5 is compatible with EV 8.0 SP2 but the service is unresponsive. Still no errors or warnings just cannot start the Accelerator Manager service. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Travis

Wait..... You said you were

Wait.....

You said you were upgrading DA also and i told you to upgrade to EV 8 SP1 first then go to SP2

Has your plans changed

Support said that the functionality is not 100% between DA 7.5 and EV8 so it is best to upgrade them both together. This is what we did and it went great

Hi Liam, Sorry my

Hi Liam,
Sorry my understanding was that you stated  there was an issue when upgrading DA from 7.5 SP5 to 8.0SP2 and to upgrade DA to 8.0SP1 then to DA 8.0SP2. What you were saying is there is an issue upgrading to DA when the EV version is upgraded 8.0SP2. So I would need to upgrade EV from 7.5 SP5 to EV 8.0SP1 then upgrade EV to 8.0 SP2 before upgrading DA at all. Then when upgrading DA would I have to follow the same steps or can DA go from 7.5 SP5 to DA 8.0SP2? Hope I did not muddy the waters too much on that question? :)

Hi Paul, in regards to your question when I run that it just says "Log Enterprise Vault has already been registered as a source on the local computer" And no events are processed in event viewer.

Thanks guys!!

Travis No you

Travis

No you misunderstand

You can go direct to EV 8 SP2 without any issues. Make sure you do the EV upgrade to SP2 on your DA server before upgrading your DA software

When upgrading DA you need to take the 2 step approach 7.5 - 8.0 SP1 then to 8.0 SP2

Hey Liam. The EV and DA

Hey Liam.
The EV and DA server are the same box. So before the upgrade to EV 8.0 Sp2 DA is working fine. After upgrading EV to 8.0 SP2 the DA service dies, EV is fine after the upgrade just not DA and that is with no upgrade of the DA software.

Thanks

The link below shows the upgrade path.  You need to go to DA 2007 SP6 then 8.0 SP1 and then 8.0 SP2.  I had the same question today for support.

Update #2

Ok,
So know I am a bit more confused. I upgraded from EV 7.5 SP5 to 8.0 Sp1, this time I did not stop the Accelerator Manager service durring the upgrade. After the upgrade and configuration was complete the Accelerator manager service was still running and I was able to open DA. Then for grins I stopped and restared the Accelerator manager service and it at that point errored out and would not start. I was wondering if there was a reg Key that had a timeout period for that service but did not see anything. Pretty crazy that it worked fine until I restarted the service.
PS I did not upgrade DA which should be ok since DA 7.5 SP5 is ok on EV 8.0.
Thanks,
Travis

Remeber you have to from 7.5

Remeber you have to from 7.5 SP 5 to 7.5 SP6 then 8.0 SP1 then to 8.0 SP2.  I confirmed this with support for use.  I am at 7.5 SP3 and have to go t 7.5 SP6.  The fun part of my upgrade is 45% of our desktops are at Windows 2000 and the client only works for EV 8.0 SP2 with XP SP2 and above.

I need to confirm if a 7.5 client will work the 8.0.

Ok this time I did get an Error in the App log.

Event ID 5000
Source .Net runtime 2.0 Error

Event type clr20r3 P1 Acceleratormanager.exe, P2 7.5.5.0, P3 498a6190, P4 System, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4889dea, P7 37fc, P8 323, P9 System.argumentexception, P10 NIL

I did run the .net  fix 3.5.1 prior to the upgrade so I am not sure it that is related?

Thanks

I did the EV upgrade from 7.5

I did the EV upgrade from 7.5 SP5 to 7.5 SP6, DA 7.5 SP5 worked just fine on both versions. Then upgraded to EV 8.0SP1 and that is when it went south again. Getting the .net error listed above with the ID 5000. So something changes with .net during the upgrade to 8.0 that is messing me up, I am not sure what that could be but I will keep reseaching it. In the meantime if anyone has some Ideas please feel free to let me know.

Thanks!!

Hi Vikes, .NET 3.5.1 is still

Hi Vikes,

.NET 3.5.1 is still pending support according to the compat chat from Oct 2009, so best redo with .NET 3.0 SP1 or 3.5 (not SP1).

I have updgraded DA before from 2007 SP5 to EV8.0 with no issues.   Probably best to follow those steps, SP5 to SP6 then v8SP1 to v8SP2.

Try DA upgrade first

We attempted to upgrade to EV 8.0 SP2 and run with DA 7.5 SPanything because of the DA 8.0 requirement for a workstation client instead of web client.  We thought we had it working until the accelerator manager service was restarted.  When we contacted support they said that DA 7.5 is not supported with EV at 8.0.  They said that your DA results may be incorrect and missing any items journaled or archived after the EV 8.0 upgrade.

They also said the proper upgrade path is to upgrade to DA 8.0 (either base or SP1) and then SP2 (this was prior to SP3) before upgrading to EV 8.0.  DA 8.0 is supposed to compatible with EV 7.5.

Hope my experience helps.

 Wayne Ragrding the DA

 Wayne

Ragrding the DA upgrade the matrix you have listed is incorrect.

Support clearly have stated that the upgrade from 2007 SP x to DA8 SP2 does not work

If you try and go from any of the DA 2007 SP6 (as an example) the script fails to create the tblRole table in each of the customer databases

I went through this upgrade not so long ago and it does fail. We had to roll back and then upgrade to DA8 SP1 then upgrade to DA8 SP2 it is a known issue

On the EV side yes the upgrade is easy but the above issue does exist with DA

Well I beg to differ, support

Well I beg to differ, support might state other wise, but one of the head shed devs just  told me that I am right (well its ment to be able to upgrade)

As for the matrix look at this, http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/290680.htm  and read the release notes, there is no mention of this.....

So support clearly need to put out a technote quick and update the documentation or some one is telling porkies......

Wayne, You fixed the problem

Wayne,
You fixed the problem and didnt even know it!  :)
I found one of your old posts with info that fixed my DA issue.
Here is the link to your post that fixed my problem

Could not start the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager Service service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Enterprise Vault (EV) Discovery Accelerator (DA) files are digitally signed.  This causes the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager Service (EVAMS) start to take longer to complete as there is an automatic check to Verisign to confirm the publisher certificate has not been revoked.

Thanks! Reply back with the link and I will make it as the solution so you can get the credit since you created the original post.

 I fully agree with you.

I fully agree with you. Consistency is needed.

We always talk with Support to ask questions on any stop issues that have been seen in the field before we upgrade and this was the one they highlighted to us. We even worked through the process with them and had the process validated by them before we proceeded.

This is why I'm adamant about the issue existing

Compatibility Chart shows both to be correct

The compatibility chart included above appears to show both of you to be correct.

Scanner 001,  you are correct in saying that you can not upgrade directly to DA 8.0 SP2 from any version of DA prior to DA 8.0.  That is clearly depicted in the chart.

Wayne, you are correct in saying that you can, however, upgrade directly to DA 8.0 SP3 from DA 7.5 if you upgrade from DA 7.5 SP6.  That is also depicted in the chart.

If upgrading EV and DA, I would go to 8.0 SP3 for both and skip 8.0 SP2.  EV and DA 8.0 SP2 gave us lots of problems which seemed to magically go away with SP3.

MoJoe
