Client Management Suite

We are currently in the process of testing R13 (NS6.x) for Production. In the meantime we have a few hundred Win 7 clients that are out in the environment. While we know that Win7 and x64 are not officially supported under R11 (our current rollup) we do know that the client functions. So in a short time we will be gettng everthing current as far as 6.x goes.

Until then however we are getting the Altiris Agent build 6.0.2403 out to the small number of Win 7 x64 clients we have. So here is what we are running into.

When we attempt to install the client via the VBS we use to install to our 32-bit clients it kicks off and then shuts down only a couple of seconds later. If we pull from the webpage on the NS it installs without issue.

If we also pull the command string used in our vbscript it also starts and dies in a couple seconds. Again when we run this on our 32 bit clients it finishes like a champ!

Any thoughts on why this might be happening? Something in Windows 7 x 64 slapping us down? As far as I know UAC should be completely disabled.

but, not supported generally means "it might work, and great if it does" and "if it doesn't work, too bad". However, in your case, it appears it's the vbs that's causing the issue, not the client 'stub' installer. If you install the agent via the pull method, on the 64bit systems, you have no issues, right? Have you tried pusing from the console? The OS main say unknown, but it might work just the same.

If they pull the cmd line out of the VBS and run it directly it also bombs out in the very same fashion. Run it on a 32 bit client its fine, a 64 ...and Boom Boom.

a) what is it and b) are you running the command console with admin privs? (not just administrator access)

Either way, you're stretching what is and is not supported by the vendor and probably Microsoft. Anyway you can get an error code (event logs, Aexnsc.log, etc)?
