Hi,
I'm Using Backup Exec 2012 on windows 2008 R2 and we have defined the media sets as below.
Monday backups go to Monday Media Set
Tuesday Backups go to Tuesday Media set..
.
.
Sunday backups go to sunday media set.
But unfortunately when there are no tapes available or overwritable in Sunday media set, it is taking Monday media set tapes. Normally it should not happen and I dont want this to happen. I want the backups to take media from assigned media set only. It should not take from other media set. Some one kindly help me on this.
Regards,
TV

The procedure is by design.
Thanks Gurvinder for the response.
If that is the case what is the use of media set concept? we can keep all the tapes in one set right. Anyways with your reponse I came to know my request is not possible, so im marking your response as solution.
Regards,

Media sets are meant for you to define the OPP and AP of the media. The way BE seeks out overwritable media is to prevent your jobs from failing when there are overwritable tapes in your library. You can implement what you want to do if you partition your library. However, if you do not have an overwritable tape in the target partition, your job will fail because BE will not use a tape in another partition.
You are managing your tapes when you should let BE and the tape library manage your tapes for you. See my article below on this subject.

Thanks pkh for the response. In my case, We have only one tape drive, so i guess it is not possible to do partition
Do you mean a tape library with single tape drive?
I thought of asking this, as you said when there is no verwritable media in Sunday media set BE using media from other media sets which indicates you have tape automation.
Partitioning the library means partitioning the slots available in library. Number of drives available is not a concern.
