An irregular ammount of users are not receiving the MS09-067 patch.  The strange thing about this issue is that when I view the vulnerable machines, instead of listing the user once, it lists most of the users twice.

For example a vulnerable machine may look like this in the report:

AJACKSON   MS09-067 office2003-KB973475-FullFile-ENU.exe
AJACKSON   MS09-067 office2007-kb973704-fullfile-x86-glb.exe

(1)  Why are these users not receiving the updates?  Is there an issue with this update similar to the previous issues with updates related to Office?  (2)  Why would a user need an update for both office 2003 and 2007?

would be that they have multiple versions of office installed. This could simply be a viewer or Microsoft Access, for example. Patching MS Office has always been a bit of bear, depending how it was installed, where the source files are located, and what account you use Altiris to patch with. For example, if the admininistrative install point is on a server, the default Altiris patch install used the local system account, which doesn't have access to network shares.

The user has Office 2003 installed as well as the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack.  KB973704 is an update that applies to the following products: 

• the 2007 Microsoft Office System (with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2))
• the 2007 Microsoft Office System Compatibility Pack (with Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 2 (SP2))
