  • 1.  Issue with scanning NAS drives

    Posted Jul 28, 2014 01:58 PM

We've got a Windows 2012 server with two mapped NAS drives.  They are mapped via the System account.  I want to scan these NAS drives when not logged in.  With the System account the drives should have a persistent mapping when no user is logged in.  I select the option to run the scan when no user is logged in and the scan DOES run.  The scan is Custom and scheduled to run at a specific time.  However, the NAS drives DO NOT get scanned, even though they are selected in the custom scan.

What can I do to get SEP 12.1.4 to be aware of these drives and scan them when not logged in?   There is NO password required to scan network drives, the just don't get done.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

So the scan runs and only scans local (c:)?

Correct.  The scan runs but ignores the NAS drives.

Move this machine to a new group, give client full access, create a user schedule scan.. it will scan the drive which is mapped...

Sounds like what you configured is correct. If you kick it off manually does it scan?

Yes, manually it does scan the drives (because I'm logged in)

Rafeeq, when you say give the client 'full access', I'm not sure what you mean?  The server is in its' own group so I can configure it however I choose.  Please clarify 'full access' for me.

And, thanks to you both for the feedback so far.

Login as a user and set a schedule a scan from the SEP Client interface. ( User defined scan)

    Enable this logging

Log off, check if that scanned your drive..

    Hi,

The use of the Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Endpoint client to scan drives on a NAS device is not recommended and is not supported.

Recommended product: Symantec Protection Engine for Network Attached Storage

Symantec Protection Engine for Network Attached Storage provides scalable, high-performance threat detection services. These services protect valuable data stored on network attached storage (NAS) devices, providing increased scanning performance and improved detection capabilities for protection against multi-blended threats. Protection Engine includes Symantec's industry-leading malware protection for fast, scalable, and reliable content scanning services. These help organizations protect their data and storage systems against the ever-growing malware threat landscape. Malware definitions and engines are updated automatically with no interruption in malware scanning using Symantec LiveUpdate. Definitions can also be distributed centrally to multiple deployments utilizing the included Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator application.
