Issues setting up new SAV 10.2 server

I installed a fresh copy of W2K3 SP2 on a server in order to run Symantec AntiVirus Server 10.2.  I've installed the SAV management console and management server pieces.  When I attempt to unlock my server group (with a password I've double- and triple-checked), I receive the following message:

"The username/password combination is incorrect or you don't have sufficient privileges to access this Server Group.  Please re-enter the account information.  Note that passwords are case sensitive."

Also, when I go to event viewer I see the following message leading me to believe that the user name and password are valid:

"User 'snoopfrog' logged in to Server Group ISSAV102 from (IP)- xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, port 1290.  Login session will expire 5/15/2007 - 9:57:20PM (GMT)."

I installed the SAV management console first then the server antivirus piece, per the installation instructions.  Also, I've uninstalled all components and reinstalled (several times).  I've verified that NTFS, registry, and DCOM permissions are correct per this Symantec article:  http://entkb.symantec.com/security/output/n2002103013521548.html

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Snoop Frog

If it truely is a password issue, Tech Support can help you reset it. Sounds like it could be an issue with the certificates. Have you verified that the machines in question have the correct time?

I verified that the time is correct (matches my domain time and www.time.gov).  Also, I have used the iforgot.exe executable to reset my password.  I receive the same error message after I run the app and reset my password.

Also, when I attempt to run the server antivirus app by entering my credentials, I receive the following message:

"This user does not have permission to configure Symantec AntiVirus."

I've opened a case with Symantec regarding this thread.

Have you tried the default account information?

Login = admin
Password = symantec

Remove all warning labels and let natural selection take it's course!

I tried that set of credentials in the management console to unlock the server group and in the server antivirus app.  I wasn't able to access either.

Thanks for the suggestion, though, as I knew the default password was 'symantec' but I didn't know what the default user name was.  At least I can rule that out.

Issue solved :smileyhappy:

I uninstalled both pieces of software then reinstalled from the downloaded .zip file instead of the distribution point on the network.  I'm thinking somebody modified a file somewhere and the new server was looking for my old SAV server (?).

Either way, thanks for the help!

I am having the same problem.
I have unloaded, reloaded, unloaded, reloaded, manually gone through and removed entries as per Symantec instructions.

I am unable to login using CORRECT username/passwords to Symantec Anti Virus Server and the Console to unlock.

I have followed instructions to delete snap-ins, keys, etc and done fresh install with no luck.

I also tried iforgot.exe

I downloaded from fileconnect and saved ZIP file to a V:\Utils folder, extracted files and have installed from there..
Should I be trying anything else???

Help appreciated... Thanks

This is a guess, but I imagine your V: drive is a network drive.  Try installing from a local drive.  I know, I know- it shouldn't matter.  I don't have a good answer for why my install worked, but I ran the installation after copying the .zip and unpacking locally.

Good luck.

I'm having the same problem. The system is Windows 2003 SBS (German). I've followed the steps described here:

1. Uninstall
2. Reinstall with correct install order
3. Check permissions in Regedit and DCOM

I am seeing that I login correctly in the event log. If I use a wrong password, this is also reported as wrong password in the event log. But the sys center console always reports my password wrong. I also tried iforgot.exe.

When I create a new server group in sys center console, it is already unlocked and I can access it. When I close the console and reopen it, I'm not able to unlock it then.

The downloaded ZIP was unpacked locally to the server and installed - so the network drive problem shouldn't be an issue as reported before...

Any clues? All current Windows updates are applied... Already checked that.

Is there a reason you're trying to install 10.2 on a Win2K3 machine?  10.2 was built for Vista machines.  As long as you have a server with 10.1 MR5 or later on it you can manage a 10.2 machine.

The only explanation I was able to derive from this is that you need to install SAV from a local directory rather than a network directory.

Hey Snoop...  You know, I read the thread before and saw that it worked for you when you installed from a local drive.  I kinda just dismissed this as a fluke...

Well, I just did the same (actually from CD) and it worked for me as well!

Thank you sir!

p.s. I guess that will teach me to think logically!  :-)

I just (finally) resolved this issue myself.  I had tried doing an overinstall and kept getting the error about unlocking my server group.  Since we have a small network, I did a complete uninstall and then reinstalled.  Same problem again.  I finally did an uninstall, deleted Program Files\Symantec and All Users\Application Data\Symantec.  Reinstalling this time seems to have made everything happy.  I'm guessing that something in the old installation was giving me grief.  If you are still having this problem, you might give the above a shot...

Aloha!

Just been on the phone with Symantec regarding this. We verified through the registry that I was using the correct ID. I know the password is correct as it is the same as the server password. We changed the password for the ID I was using  with iforgot.exe but it still wouldnt work.

I didnt install from a network drive it was straight from the CD. This is clearly a bug in the software. Ive wasted most of my day messing about with it. Going to uninstall and delete the profile data now.

The chap from Symantec is calling back tomorrow as he couldnt fix it. Hopefully it will be resolved by then. I will let him know about the thread on here in the hop that they will actually validate it as a problem.

I had to unistall ALL Symantec programs(also Symantec System Center). After that i had to delete all files and folders in Program files, Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared and Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec.
The next step was to copy the installation files to the C:\ drive

I first installed The server antivirus after that system center.

That was the only way for me to get it to work.

Symantec...this is a bug...fix it! asap!

This issue appears to be global as I'm having the same issue on WIn2k server SP4. I have tried uninstalling the console and re-installing the console. I will follow the lead and uninstall, and remove all including progam and shared folders and report back.

Im having the exact same problem

If you uninstall everything and reinstall everything, does it effect the group you made with all the computer connections?  I'm really new to this. I just started and unlock the server group. ive tried everything mentioned above
