  • 1.  Issues with SIM (Symantec Installation Manager)

I'm trying to install the Client Management Suite in a couple of servers to begin documentation and testing, prior to installing the suite in Production, and I'm facing some issues.
As the servers in production will not connect to Internet, I'm trying to install the Suite with a package. I installed succesfully the SIM (Symantec Installation Manager, version 7_1_206) in one of the servers, and I was able to generate the package for the CMS with no problems detected. For creating the package, I only selected the Suite for the Client Management Suite. A big .exe is created with no errors.I execute the .exe, and it decompress successfully.
The problems begin when I try to use the binaries in this package for installing the solution. I configure the SIM to use the xmp.zip included in the package, I force the SIM to update the information, but the SIM does not detect the binaries, and it shows all the products disabled, remembering me to connect to Internet for downloading the binaries.
To make another test, I created another package in which I included only the Server Management Solution. After decompressing the binaries in the package, and after configuring the SIM to use the xml.zip included in this package, I found that the SIM is allowing us to install the SMS, but if we select the xml.zip from the CMS package, the SIM will only allow us to install the SMS, without noticing that I selected other suite for installing.
I tested the CMS package in the second server with the same results: the package is successfully unpacked, the SIM is installed ok, but when I select the xml.zip from the package for installing, it shows all the products disabled.
The date shown when I select the xml.zip is 29th of August, 2012.

I would really apreciate if anyone can help me in this.

Are all the msi in the \Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\Installs\Altiris\ folder? If not copy them there and start the SIM again.

    Hi, SaschaH:

When I launch the .exe with the package, it decompress succesfully all the .msi files (at least, there are no 0-byte files) and the .xml.zip file.

I then start the SIM, I select the xml.zip, and after examinating it, the SIM throws no error (so I guess the xml.zip file is corrent).

    Thanks:

I guess there is some problem when trying to use a package created with this version of SIM.

I could create a package (like a year and a half ago) with SIM (I think it was version 55 or so) and it worked as a charm in a unconnected machine.

I've tried to install in a unconnected machine again, with a fresh new install package, and while the SIM asks you about your data (in the background it begins checcking the binaries) it suddenly shows you errors about not being able to find some binaries in http:://www.solution.sam/solutions/bla bla bla...even when the binaries are laready in the local disk, and the xml.zip selected is on  the local disk also.

Anyone been able to install from a local package with SIM 206?
