Created: 06 Jul 2012 | 11 comments
Hi,
Why IT analytics is not installing windows 2008 R2 OS? this is the latest version of OS? it is showing unexpected error while installing?
whether it will work only in 32 bit OS?

Also, you might get better feedback from the Altiris forums rather than the SEP one. IT Analytics is primarily an Altiris feature, that just happens to have a plugin for SEP.
#EDIT#
Just to clarify, the latest version of the Symantec Management Platform (formerly Altiris Notification Server) 7.1 does require a 64bit OS. Plus, the Symantec Installation Manager should be able to tell you what is missing when you attempt to install the SMP in the first place..

...and working fine.
Any information you can provide on the actual error would help in your investigation. You'll also find more information/help/guidance on SMP installation errors from the Altiris forums, because that's exactly what you're installing here.
Case in point, many seem to experience the below error on new installs:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH165079
The SMP forums are here:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/endpoint-management/forums/symantec-management-platform-notification-server
And finally the SMP KB's can be found here:

Let me just echo What SMLatCST recommended...
You may find some helpful answers in this forum https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/endpoint-management/forums/symantec-management-platform-notification-server in the Endpoint Management Community. If you'd like to repost your question there.

of the actual logs themselves. The location of the logs can be found in the below article, which also happens to be the only one that seems to match your particular error message:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH43047
If the situation does not match then I'd suggest you post the identified logs from the below article as well:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9264
Finally, as I've mentioned previously, it's highly recommended that you also create a post in the Altiris forums, and this is an Altiris issue (or log a support case with Symantec).
And just to confirm, the latest version of the SMP can only be installed on a 64bit OS. If you install the Symantec Installatiomn Manager to a 32bit OS, it should only give you the option of creating an installattion package, and won't allow you to install the Altiris products.

That is an error I just received as well. The issue for me is that the firewalls were blocking the download of MSI files. Once I got an exception for that, the install proceeded through.
