IT Analytics Settings Configuration

Created: 17 Jul 2012 | 2 comments

In the SMP Settings > IT Analytics there is the tab for SQL Server Settings. Can the Analysis Server Name and the Report Server Virtual Directory server name use a CNAME to the server? We are getting user authentication errors to the Analysis server Cubes. If we use the Netbios name it works just fine.  The CNAME works everywhere else in the configuration of the SMP, just not the IT Analytics. The CNAME will PING and resolve the IP address correctly. Does it have anything to do with the SPN records?

Why would you use CNAME instead of FQDN ? Do you NS identity have rights on the Report server and it's database ?

We use a CName to avoid hard coding the server configurations with a host name. In the event the service needs to be moved to another server or the host server is replaced, we can change the DNS record for the Cname to the IP of the new server, without having to modify the various configurattion settings.
