  • 1.  Is it best practice to install managed client (v12.1.2) on the secondary drive?

    Posted May 24, 2013 10:58 AM

I am in the process of rolling out SEP12.1.1. (done 250 out of 1200 clients)

Out of the blue, a Dr. client wants to have it installed it on his secondary drive on a Vista Business OS.

Can you tell me whether this is a Best Practice or anything else that may cause issues?

Yes, I can predict that more will make comments about Vista, especially when Symantec Forum doesn't even list it in the drop-down list for this discussion creation.

    thx

You can do it. KBA for guidance is here:

How to change the installation folder for a Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client?

Just remember this is only the install folder. Content will still be installed on C: This is by design and cannot be changed.

    Hello,

There is no best practices Article specifically that mentions "SEP can be install managed client (v12.1.2) on the secondary drive". However, SEPM provides a provision to create a package to install SEP on another drive.

    Check these Articles:

How to change the installation folder for a Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client?

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO50288

How to create a Symantec Endpoint Protection install package that will install to a different drive

    Secondly, check this Thread:

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi,

The default installation folder of a Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client is "C:\Program files\Symantec Endpoint Protection". In some cases like your case the default folder needs to be changed to another folder & it's possible.

You can install on another drive however as Pete said few directories will be intalled on C drive only.

It's by design only. However maximum portion will be installed on choosen drive.

All in all, installing SEP to a secondary drive will make no difference to it's operation.  Once it's all loaded up and running, SEP will operate exactly the same, regardless of where it's installed.

Just as an aside, the most common reason for installing to a second drive is due to disk space limitations on the system drive.  Therefore, it's worth noting that even when installed to a second drive or partition, SEP will still store some content on the system partition (as detailed in the below article):
