  • 1.  IT Management Suite 7.5 fails every time I run a task...

    I get this error:

     

    An unknown exception was thrown.
     

     

    CAtrsException exception, error = "Failed to execute task", OS error = 2147746291, at line 363

    Does anyone how to fix this?

    Is that the Symantec Management Agent?

    If it is, I have installed and uninstalled the agent multiple times and it still seems to be giving the same error.  The agent is present on the client PC also.

    Hi citetechie,

    You're using only 7.5 release build and there is no other 7.5 HF installed?

    You have only local Task Server which is running on SMP Server or there is remote Task Server as well?

    What exact task you're trying to execute on client?

    I installed all of the current HFs.  I am running the trialware version.  I'm trying to create an image of the client PC to put on the server.  I also tried to run the "Prepare for Image Capture" task with no success.

    Make sure that:

    1. SMA on client computer and Task Server version is up-to-date? (Because if version of Task Server and SMA are different, then tasks won't work).
    2. Client computer has "Deployment Plug-in" installed where you're trying to execute "Prepare for Image Capture" task?

    SMA was manually pushed from server to client.

    Deployment Solution Plug-in was also installed on client

    Did you try to execute, for example "Run Script" task on same client computer? Just for a test purpose to determine is it a global task management problem or this problem relates only for Deployment Solution tasks?
     

    If "Run Script" will works, then seems like you need to install "Deployment Automation Folder" as well to perform DS task "Capture Image" (Also check trial license usage state for Deployment Solution, isn't it exceeded already? You can see license state via SIM.)

    Failed

    The return code on the Client PC is 1. Status = Failed.

    Let's return and check this:

    1. You have only 1 Task Server which is running on your ITMS server or there is a remote Task Server as well?

    2. What is the version of Task Server(s) you have?

    3. Does "Altiris Client Task Data Loader" and "Altiris Object Host Service" are running on server(s), where Task Server is installed? (You can try to restart them and try to run task again on client computer)

    4. What is a Win OS on client computer, where task execution fails?

    5. There is no network problems, like closed ports, etc?

    6. What is the version of Client Task Agent plug-in in SMA on your client computer, where task fails?

    • You can check version in properties of SMA. Mouse double click on SMA tray icon:

    7. You've tried to run similar "Run Script" task?

    8. What says SMA in logs, when task execution fails?

    • Logs on client computer are here ⇒ C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\Logs

    9. Make sure that there is no crash occurs of SMA on client computer

    • Crash dumps of SMA are here ⇒ C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\CrashDumps

    10. Did you try to execute "Run Script" task, for example using another client computer or even for local ITMS server? What is result?

    1. task server is on server

    2. Version 7.5.1670
    Altiris Notification Server™ Version 7.5

    3. Restarted those two services:  Now it sends the deployment solution preboot environment and crashes the PC when it restarts.

    4. Windows 8.1

    5. No network problems because I can ping from server and vice versa

    6. 7.5.1674.11

    7. Run Script task is successful.

    9. No crash dumps in folder.

    10. No I have not tried that because we are trying to image this particular PC for a massive rollout for about 200 PCs.

    So now you have a working client computer, where at least "Run Script" task has been successfuly executed.

    Current client computer has DS plug-in and DS Automation folder installed. Did you try to perform DS tasks to capture image?

    "Prepare for image capture" and "create image" tasks still fail when run.

    None of the links provide any further instructions on how to successfully run those tasks and the documentation on the software is extremely vague.

    My issue has been resolved.  After talking with Symantec Support, we found out Altiris on my NS was using .net 4!

    Basically, Altiris still uses .net 2! We changed IIS settings to use .net 2.  Once we did that, it all started working.

     

    The crazy thing I don't undestand is; While I was using 7.1, everything was working.  After we upgraded to 7.5 it started using .net 4.

    Something to look at.
