Is it possible to change the names of a 6.x Package Server?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I need to send a replacement 6.x Package Server to a remote office. I have a spare package server to send but when I renamed the package server (from PCS-REGSEA to PCS-REGPHX) to reflect the location, it was not able to download packages from the new server name(itself). The package download tab showed it was trying to access the path with the old server name. So when I renamed the server back it downloaded the packages successfully.

So is renaming a package server not advisable?

Thanks.

Altiris console will know the Package server by the name.. If you re-name the package server then you have to add the same in the notifiaction server.

I hope you are not getting the GUID error.

Hi adude,

It may just be that you haven't given Altiris enough time to update after changing the name.

After you rename the Package Server, click "Send Basic Inventory" in the agent. Allow time for the NS to process the data and then force a delta collection update (or wait for the next scheduled update). The Package Servers configuration page should now show the updated name. Then 'Update Configuration" in the agent on the Package Server, it should get an update and packages should download correctly.
