  • 1.  Is it possible for new clients to pull policies, but not defs?

Morning, I'm currently have problems & I'm hoping for an answer.

I create an install package through the console, then the .msi is launched and installed through altiris.  Problem I'm having is that new clients are getting there post setup which installs SEP, and the policy to tell it which GUP to pull from isn't determined on the first launch.  So I'm getting major hits on the bandwidth since the computer is downloading its defs from the main server and not the GUP.  I need to find a way or make sure that the client system gets the policy FIRST that will tell it to get the defs from a local GUP and not come back to Corporate.

    Thanks

It sounds like you will just want to make a new package to deploy because your policy's have changed since the last package you created.

When you make a new package you choose which group you want the client to default to.  This also determines what policy's are applied to it by default.  If the policy's include the GUP configuration then the client should go to GUP rather than back to the SEPM.

You can try this intaillay , For the first time the pacakge will come with the latest defs and from the next time the client will go to the GUP. This will save a alot of bandwidth.
