Yes, the older 12.1 versions of the SEPM can support newer 12.1 client versions. It is always recommended to have both SEPM and clients on the same SEP version but this will still work.

12.1 RU2 is the first version to support Server 2012. The latest version of 12.1 that is out is RU3. I would suggest starting with that.

See this KBA regarding SEP 12.1 and Server 2012:

    Hello,

In your case, Symantec Endpoint Protection must be completely uninstalled before upgrading the operating system. This applies to all versions of SEP. Upgrading the operating system with SEP still installed is currently unsupported due to potential issues which may arise during the upgrade.

After the operating system is migrated, SEP 12.1 may be reinstalled. Check this Article:

Should Symantec Endpoint Protection be uninstalled from the computer before upgrading Microsoft Windows to a newer version of Windows?

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH197095

Symantec 12.1.2012 is fully supported on Windows Server 2012. However, it is always advisable to install the Latest version of SEP 12.1 (i.e; currently the Latest version is SEP 12.1.3001) on your environment.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

SBE 12.0 is not compatible with Windows Server 2012. You need to perform an upgrade.

I would suggest first to upgrade Symantec small business server (Symantec Protection Center) to the latest version i.e. SBE 12.1 RU3

SBE 12.0 RU1 version & was released in Nov'09. Almost three years back.

This article can help you to achieve that.

After successful upgrade of Windows server install the latest version of SEP on it.
