This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello all,

I am fighting an issue with Journal Archiving. Databases have been checked, as has access to systemmailboxes, journalmailboxes etc.

I have large MSMQ's mainly J2 (some are over 70.000 items) Several queues have items with value [1]. I recall from previous forum posts by others that this indicates the original action failed, and that this is a retry. I also recall it can go to [2], and then [3] before being disregarded.

Can these items be manually purged? Or does tha have an unwanted side-effect?

J2 is items to process which means the items are marked as Pending have a corresponding entry in this queue.

If you purge them you could have some pending messages stuck in the journal mailbox.

Hello Tony,

Thanks. So, as long as I see messages in the queue, even if it shows as [1], it still means the item is pending, and hopefully will be processed?

Thank you, Gertjan, MCSE, MCITP,MCTS, SCS, STS

[1] means a retry so its most likely erroring out at some point, you may need to do a dtrace of the journal task
