This issue has been solved. See solution.

I've just finished installing SEP MR4 and everytime I start the service up it immediately stops with the following error: 'The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of -1, the service is being stopped.'

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling SEP but I keep getting the same error.

Help please!

Is this on the SEP Manager or client?

Have you tried clean installing java?

Or removing java completely and letting the SEP Manager installer put its own java on the machine?

This is happening on the SEP Manager. I've removed the Java client and reinstalled SEP Manager but to no avail, the same error keeps appearing.

Here's a rundown of events:

* Installed SEP Manager & LiveUpdate Manager (Had to install Java independantly for LiveUpdate Manager so manually downloaded and installed JRE6 U11)

* Repaired SEP Manager installation.

* Un-installed SEP Manager and re-installed SEP Manager.

* Un-installed JRE6 U11.

* Repaired SEP Manager installation.

I am still not able to log on to the SEP Manager Console because of this Java error that keeps stopping the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service.

Found the solution!

I initially installed IIS using the source files from a W2K3 R2 ISO instead of using a W2K3 R2 SP2 ISO. Re-installed IIS and then re-installed SEP and it's all working now!

Source files used to install IIS needs to match the exact version of your OS otherwise it could cause problems at times...
