    I am running SEPM 12.1 on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 virutal server on ESX 5. Every once in a while, the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager will stop and I'll get an Event ID 4096 in Event Viewer. The server has SQL installed locally and is using Apache, not IIS. I've attached scm-server-0.log and catalina.out. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,

    Could you try Editting the Conf.properties file and add the following line “scm.db.datasource=jdbc/metadatabase”

    Steps:

    1. Go to the following location

    <drive>:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc

    2. Edit the conf.properties
    3. Add the line at the end of the file

    scm.db.datasource=jdbc/metadatabase

    4. Save and close the file
    5. Restart the SEPM service

    Hope that helps!!

    That line is already in the conf.properties file.

    Hello,

    Could you let us know since when did you started receiving this issue?

    Was the SEPM migrated from the Older version?

    Is the SEPM using the same SQL server which is installed locally?

    I would suggest you to create a case with Symantec Technical Support.

    It was a fresh install with a migration from another server. It has been experiencing it since the server was brought online a couple of months ago.

    SQL is installed locally.

    I'll open a case with Support.

    We also get this error. We uses two SEPM´s, one is working fine and the other doesn´t. We running on SEP12.1 RU1 MP1 and uses a external SQL database.

    I believe we got this error after we ran out of free space.

    I´ll also create a case and updates this post with findings.

    We also ran out of disk space.  This was caused funnily enough by the crippled database system that the Small Business Edition uses filling our hard disk with its own log.

    After I followed the instructions in the relevant technote to prune the logfile, SEPM would no longer run and keeps crashing with this error.

    I have tried the reconfig wizard, to no avail.  This is the second server this has happened on, I had to move the installation from the last server after the exact same thing happened, and even re-installing the product failed on the old server.

    I keep thinking to myself, why oh why did I migrate to this over complicated hard disk filling bloatware after happily using Kaspersky for 3 years.

    I really can't face reinstalling this thing again, and pushing out new symlink files to everyone, I am going to boil my head instead.

    We are using Windows 2008 X64

    After analysing the logs post reconfiguration wizard, I noticed that it was complaining about a missing key in the configuration file

    scm.liveupdateclient.path was missing from conf.properties in tomcat/etc - I suspect the reconfiguration wizard removed this, and actually fixed the previous problem after running out of disk space but broke the config files.

    I added this key into conf.properties

    scm.liveupdateclient.path=C\:\\Program Files (x86)\\Symantec\\LiveUpdate

    Restarted the services and it came back to life, just needed the .slf license file re-importing.  Just downloading MP1 now so I have the latest update, after SEPM support tool told me my RU1 was out of date.

    It still shouldn't have filled the hard disk up though, that is an unforgivable oversight in an enterprise product even if it is "small business edition".
