Hi,

Have an odd situation with DS 7.1 - I drop a rebuild job containg about 10 or so tasks onto a computer from the Jobs and Tasks page. The jobs window syas the task is running but on drill down shows that for the client the job is pending and stil to start. On the computers page the job does not show as being assigned to the compmuter at all. And yet the job runs through comlpletely to the end. In other words the job and all the tasks run but the console never shows this.

Anyone ever seen somethign similar or have any ideas?

Cheers

Steve

Hi,

Altiris Client Task Dataloader service may not be running or working. All task statuses are sent up to Object Host, and then through Client Task Dataloader to the Object Host on the NS and up to the DB. If Client Task Dataloader isn't working, no statuses get back to the NS.

Restart Altiris Client Task Dataloader on the Site Server and on the NS. If that doesn't work, please let us know.

thanks - The Task data loader service is not started and won't start! Am just trying a longer timeout - to see if it will start then.

I had this problem also. I'm pretty sure this service needs to be able to contact the internet, otherwise it wont start.

Ah that possibly explains it... It's a demo/test VM environment that has no external connectivity.

Odd thing is it used to work as I never have interent connectivity when I'm doing demo's...

TECH192580 (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH192580) - Unable to start Altiris Client Task Data Loader service, have the explanation about the root cause for problems to start Client Task Data Loader.

This problem is caused by the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) lookup. When the computer has no internet connection, .NET will try for up to 15 seconds to access the CRL before timing out as a failure. This delay can lead to Windows services, like Altiris Client Task Data Loader service, failing during startup,

To resolve this issue, follow the instructions of KB article HOWTO9585 (http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO9585)

Thanks for the advice. m=Made the changes but the service still won't start, though the event receiver service does now start. Will check through this again to see if I've made any errors!

I had an issue on one server where I had to change the account that starts the service or it wouldn't work. I used teh altiris service account to do this rather then the local system account

Thanks everyone - it would seem you not only need to make the changes outlined in the article but also to make the account the service runs in the system account. The service now runs and the console is showing the job responses.
