Have Backup exec 10d rev. 5629 sp4, backs up on a Windows 2003 sbs sp2 svr. Server is a PE840 w/2gb of ram intel 2.8ghz.. Job properties:
-Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available.
-backing up exchange and a D and C drive nothing remotely.
-Full backup of files - using archive bit,
-Hardware compression
-Backs up to a Dell PV-100t-DAT72 which has a Veritas driver installed.
Just last week it was consistant every day Wed through Friday having to put in a tape from the previous week in order for my job to complete, i'm only backing up 28gbs of data, ran my cleaning tape which is new and all my tapes are new. Any thoughts?

RE: Job takes 2 tapes intermittantly

Are your jobs actually appending, or do they now always overwrite the first volume?

look at the job log

Look at the job log... it should tell you if it is appending or overwriting.  You can also look at the media set numbers... if it is set #1, then it is an overwrite.  If it is greaqter than 1, then it is an append.

If you find this is a solution for the thread, please mark it as such.

RE: Backup Options Media

OK,  so you are doing appends

It is possible that you have filled the tapes up, and the second is now the one that you need to mount for the next Append job

RE: these are brand new tapes.

If these are brand new tapes, there should't be any data on them.

To reuse them, you need to run an Overwrite job to them after the OPP has expired or after you have moved the volumes to the Scratch media set
