The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time

Created: 01 Aug 2011 | 13 comments

Hi,

I am getting the error "The job was automatically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time." everytime a scheduled back-up tries to run. The job goes into a queuing status but never comes out of it. I know this because there are no data backed up at all. Can anyone help please?

Thanks,

Seamus

Hi,

I have the same problem when I run a remote backup of a PC with lots of data.
The maximum duration of a task is set at 30 minutes (visible by clicking on "View as XML" in the context menu of the backup job) but I have not figured out how to change this setting.

Anyone have a solution?
Thank you.

(Sorry for my broken English I am French, google translate is my friend wink )

Which commands do you run as a before backup job ?

For my part, nothing.
I use the default task in the "Control Tasks" / "Jobs and Tasks" / "Samples" / "Notification Server" / "Work" / "Run the backup policy" then I select my policy backup that does not perform any command first.

When I run the backup policy from the client computer, even if the execution lasts over 30 minutes, the backup works.
It is only through the task "Run the backup policy," the backup stops after 30 minutes.

Thank you for your help.

Well, I have upgraded BESR SP3 =>Ok (thx)

But now I have an issue with Altiris: " Server Error in '/Altiris/Symantec.BackupSln.Web' Application "

I could not update via internet because my server is not connected. I have checked different troobleshooting, they are speaking about an upgrade of "Symantec management Platform 7.0 SP2" but I cannot find the download page!

Do you have the address? (my server is 2003 so I cannot upgrade withe the 7.1)

I'm not the sure that will fix my issue, by the way your ideas are really welcome smiley

thanks

I am thinking you mean Symantec Management Platform 7.0 MR4? IT Management Suite 7.0 MR4 is another software solution not related.

To perform an offline installation, you have to create an installation package on a computer that does have an Internet connection. From the computer with an internet connection, install Symantec Installation Manager (SIM). You can do this from the SSR MS installation disk, and cancel the SSR MS install once SIM is installed.

Once SIM is installed, launch SIM, then do the following:

  • If the Install New Products page appears, click Cancel, and click Yes to confirm the cancellation.
  • Click the Settings button.
  • In the Settings dialog box, click Change product listing.
  • In the Manage Product Listings dialog box, select the product listing, and click Edit.
  • Select 'symantec.p.xml.zip (default)', and click OK and wait for the product list to update.
  • Click OK. You may be required to update SIM.
  • On the Installed Products page, click Create installation package.
  • On the Products page, select the first filter drop-down to Product Type, and the second to platform.
  • Select Symantec Management Platform MR4.
  • In the Output location, choose a location for the package, and click Next.
  • Click Next.
  • Accept the license agreements.
  • Click Begin build.
  • When the build process is complete, copy the newly created file from the output location to the SSR MS machine, and launch the file.

Hi,

Thank you for that explanation, unfortunately it is very difficult to get a PC running Windows Server connected to the Internet at work (to install SIM) ...
Is there another way to download this package ?

Thanks.

Andy H.'s picture

What if I uploaded the install to an FTP location? Could you download it from there?

Yes, I can download it.
Thanks a lot

EDIT : Finally, I managed to connect a Windows 2003 Server to the Internet (via a VM).
I was able to download the package and I installed on my BESR server.
Unfortunately, this update did not correct my problem that occurred following the SP3 installation of BESR MS.
Not to make off-topic on the topic of Seamus, I will create a new topic describing my problem with the error logs.

Thank you anyway for the proposal on an FTP upload.

Our backups have been running for months with no issue.  This morning I found that all of last night's backups failed.  No Backup Exec logs were created.  In the server (windows 2003) event viewer, I can see events as the following:

Backup Exec Alert: Job Cancellation.  The job was automically canceled because it exceeded the job's maximum configured run time

After researching for a couple of hours, I decided to check the tape drive to see if any messages were showing (yesterday, a message appeared that our cleaning tape had expired).  When I checked the drive, I discovered that the door was slightly open.  I closed the door and now everything is working properly.

BESR / SSR is a disk based solution , so working with tape drives is not supported .

For BESR/ SSR - for above error refer : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH124627

For BEWS : refer : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH124627
