  • 1.  Keep the same domain computer name after a deployment

    Hello,

I have a problem with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 3.0, I've find a solutions on symantec forum but there are never exactly the solution.

I have a basic .gho image of a Windows 7 computer in my domain, and I have to deploy it on multiples others computers.

The problem is that the name of this image is replicated to all my clients after deployment.

How can I modify configuration to specify that the name of computers in my domain do not have to change?

    Thank you.

When you take the image you should make sure the option "Do not boot to production" is NOT set and when you deploy the image the "Automatically perform configuration tasks after completing this imaging task" and "Boot to production to complete configuration task" are both selected. You really should also be using "Prepare using Sysprep" when you take the image and "Prepared using Sysprep" when you deploy the image.

When images are deployed with sysprep and the correct unattend.xml file the machine name is minint-randomn string.  We actually use an internal process to prompt to rename the computer name during the bootup (after the image, right before driver injection).  If you aren't using sysprep I'd also confirm that the SID are not being duplicated in AD as multiple machines will have the same SID.

If you had the full CMS suite, you can just add an "apply system configuration" task to your job to join the machine to the domain and move to the correct OU.

    Hello mhendel05,

Thank you for your answer, i've try to create and deploy with Sysprep now and it works. I'll try a multiple deploy tomorrow and if it works, i'll keep the Sysprep solution.

Requesting split solution on this as assuming that PellatonR is all happy now.
