Learning about Symantec Products?
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 6 comments
I'm new to Symantec solutions and trying to wrap my mind around their products. I have a few basic questions, which I hope can be easily answered. I think the following statements are all true, but if not, please explain. Thanks.
- TRUE or FALSE - Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 consists of management console software (SEPM) and client software (SEP clients).
- TRUE or FALSE - Symantec Network Access Control 11.0 consists of the same management console (SEPM) in SEP but is enabled with more features, such as host integrity checking.
- TRUE or FASLE - Symantec Network Access Control 11.0 client software (called SNAC clients) is the same as SEP client software but enabled with more features.
- TRUE or FALSE - SNAC 11.0 includes everything in SEP 11.0, plus added functionality.
- TRUE or FALSE - SNAC clients are the same as SEP clients, plus added functionality.
- TRUE or FALSE - Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 can be installed without installing Symantec Network Access Protection 11.0.

OK, sorry about that. I missed the big, bold title saying TRUE to all. Thanks for replying so quickly. (Disregard my previous post. I'm a bit embarrassed by it.)

SEP and SNAC install
When you install SEP snac also gets installed but it remains disabled as you can see symantec Network Access Control service get installed after installing sep but it remains stopped till license is updated on sepm for snac
However you can have SNAV only clients as well which can run with diffrent AV's like SAV or any 3rd party AV's as SNAC can not only check the virus definiton for SEP but for many other AV products.
It is not necessary to have SEP in order to use SNAC.
SNAC policy manager can be integrated with SEP Policy manager ( sepm )
but you can also have a standalone SNAC Manager just to manage SNAC clients.
VMWARE-- SEP 12.1 vs McAfee vs Trend Micro
the answer for question 7 is FALSE
SNAC can be installed standalone, :)
