    Hello,

I have reinstalled PGP Personal Desktop 8.0.3 after a hard disk crash. When I fill in my name, organization and serial number and try to activate it I get this message:

"There was a problem obtaining the license authorization: PGP is unable to contact the License Authorization server. Please make sure your computer's internet connection is active. If you do not have internet access, or if you continue to have problems, contact PGP Customer Service to obtain a Manual License Authorization."

I have tried many times the last few weeks, but it doesn't work. My internet access works fine, though. PGP Customer Service doesn't exist any longer, and I'm not sure if this version is supported by Symantec.

    Would be grateful for suggestions.

Correction: should be "license number" (not "serial number")

As you can see in this Knowledge Base Article, 8.0.3 is past End Of Life support.  I wouldn't be optimistic, but can can try contacting Customer Care.  I searched the Knowledge Base, but could find nothing regarding manual license authorization for such an early version.

Thanks. There is a "manual authorization" option which opens up a text box where I should add the code. Unfortunately, I never received the code when I registered the first time.

Would PGP Desktop Home be the best replacement for protecting files and folders on a laptop - as well as mounting existing files (PGP 8.0.3)? If so, is it available in Europe (can't find it in the store). I don't have a company so the Enterprise solutions are a bit costly for my limited use.

PGP Desktop Home (this link may be better for you) would apparently meet your needs as long as you do not have such corporate needs as use of an Exchange Server.  It can be used commercially, but I believe that it does not support Whole Disk Encryption.

It would meet my needs, but I couldn't order it from the link provided since I don't live in any of the countries listed in the dropdown menu. Is it available in Europe as well? I can't find it any of the European sites.

Sorry about that - I expected the Partners list to include Europe.  I'd suggest trying the Chat With Sales option on the link you provided.  It seems like someone involved with Sales could help.
