This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

please could somebody explain clearly, why SYMC ENDPOINT PROTECTION 12.1 FOR SYMC PROTECTION SUITE ADVANCED BUSINESS EDITION 4.0 ends earlier (July, 13th 2013), as the bundle SYMC PROTECTION SUITE ADVANCED BUSINESS EDITION 4.0 PER USER BASIC 12 MONTHS EXPRESS BAND A (August, 9th 2013) for my client?

Doesn´t make any sense to me and my Symantec Sales Partner didn´t have a reasonable explaination, too, although he spoke with Symantec himself.

Now, my client has the following situation: SEP12.1 EE will expire July, 13th 2013, SMSMSE will expire August, 9th 2013 and the whole bundle will expire August 9th, 2013.

Colud someone explain this?

There is no whitepaper on this, no mail or pdf for partners in PartnerNet.

I attached the Licence Certificate and a screenshot of the SEPM and SMSMSE after activating the new lcence.

My Sales Guy said that, according to Symantec, that licence is correct, although our current licence expires August, 8th 2012! Symantec was not able to explain that to me and my sales partners in clear and understandable words!

Regards,

Rolf

Hi Rolf,

Probably it's happening because purchase order dates are different.

What explanation partner have received from Symantec.

SEP EE  uses soft enforcement policy. So it won't happen immediately that after product expires you are not able to receive product updates.

  •  Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
  •  Only UI changes and log notifications are started.

Check this article for more details: SEP 12.1 & License Concept

Excuse my late reply, Chetan,

unfortuntely I didn´t receive a notifcation for your answer, why ever??

The main question here is, why Symantec have different dates for every product and the bundle (the suite).

That is new and I can´t say when this change happend.

So, this client here is the first one with different dates (licence certficate)

Normally we have to expect that the date for the bundle (the suite) is the date where all products will expire. Otherwise the bundle does not make any sense.

By the way, I know SEP´s  soft enforcement policy, so i don´t worry.

Now I opend the slf file in notepad and the funny thing is that the slf contains August, 10th for all products. I spoke with my licencing partner and we come to the solution that we have a corrupt slf file. Therefore i will open a case for a new one.

But, the main question still remain: Why have the single products suddenly another expireation date then the suite itself?

Kind regards,

Rolf

Hi Rolf,

Thanks for an update.

It's good to know issue is due to corrupt slf.

I belongs to technical support so won't be able to answer why it happened.

O.K,

it took a very long time, with partner customer support and other activities and no one believed me that this is nonense. No one wanted to realize the problem behind this issue.

In the end, I escalated that issue to the technical support and got the following reply today: "Ihre Lizenz ist momentan in Bearbeitung mit den Kollegen. Die Daten im Portal werden abgeändert und Sie erhalten eine neue Lizenzkopie." (Translation: "Your Issue is handled by my collegues now. The Dates were changed in Licencing Portal and you will get a new licence copy.").

Bottom Line: I was totaly right with my opinion, that we got a wrong licence. No vendor is issueing Suite licences in that the included products have shorter xpiration dates, than the suite itself.

I will mark this thread as solved, as soon as we officialy close the support ticket.

As it is a noncritical issue now, it will take some time.

Kind regards,

Rolf

Case closed after that long time smiley!

We got a new certficate with the correct expiration date of August, 09 2013, the dates were changed in the licensing portal and SMSMSE and the SEPM will expire August, 09 2013.

Many thanks to Symantec technical support for their help yes and shame on Symantec Licensing and Customer Support for not realizing that problem no.

Kind regards,

Rolf
