  • 1.  License for Centralized management

I was informed to purchase a separate license for Universal Server for the centralized management. I thought I only need the Whole Disk Encryption. On the Symantec website, it says that centralized management is one of the key feature of WDE. Do I really need the Universal Server?

    Thanks

Whole Disk Encryption can be managed on individual computers, or it can be centrally managed with PGP Universal.

There is also the Workgroup Edition Controller of Whole Disk Encryption that can be used to centrally manage all of your workstations. But I "believe" it has to be purchased as a seperate license from the Whole Disk Encryption version of PGP desktop as well.

You can find more information on the Workgroup Edition of PGP Whole Disk Encryption here

On the key feature, the centralized management however, when we call technical support and licensing they told us that we will need a separate license key for universal server.

But if you look at that above link that you posted

    http://www.symantec.com/business/whole-disk-encryption

This excerpt from the top states:

PGP® Whole Disk Encryption from Symantec provides organizations with comprehensive, high performance full disk encryption for all data (user files, swap files, system files, hidden files, etc.) on desktops, laptops, and removable media. The encrypted data is protected from unauthorized access, providing strong security for intellectual property, customer and partner data. Protected systems can be centrally managed by PGP Universal Server simplifying deployment, policy creation and distribution and reporting.

Notice the bottom part that I put in bold. Talking about purchasing a PGP Universal Server to centally mange and deploy Whole Disk Encryption.

I'm sorry for the confusion, but I would probably direct your question at our Sales team. Since they are the ones who would have sold you the product.
