Created: 20 Jul 2012 • Updated: 20 Jul 2012 | 9 comments

Hi,

I have  taken one hyper-V license and a single application license.

As I know a single hyper-V license have windows agent free for all windows VM in a single hyper-V host.

I have installed windows agent in side a five number vm.

Among the five VM one is a Domain controller, one is MS SQL server ; one is a Oracle server and one is MS Share Point server.

Now how does BE 2012 identify the application agent that need to identified for the server fot GRT recovery.

OR

Willl that possible to recovery GRT for DC, MS Sharepoint and MS SQL.

And aslo what is different between Hyper-V for host based license and V-Ray Edition license.

Thanks.

Hi,

That agent unlocks the ability to backup any of the supported databases. It's like a 3-in-1 license, instead of buying a license for each different agent.

You can find out more information on Hyper-V's agent vs. V-Ray on the link below (be sure to grab the license document on the link inside that):

Thanks!

Hi,

So, I can use this single application license for recovery for all VM's GRT .

In other word:-

I have taken backup of Domain controller server VM and now I can able to recover AD with single user.

I have taken backup of MS SQL server VM and now I can able to recover a single database.

I have taken backup of MS SharePoint server VM and now I can able to recover a single document of an user.

Is that so.............

Thanks.

Loading the Hyper-V agent allows you to backup however many VMs on your cluster.

The DB agent allows you to backup any DB listed as supported. However, just loading 1 DB agent doesn't allow you to backup multiple servers. To comply, you need 1 DB agent license PER DB application server you want to backup.

Hi,

My question is there ...

How does BE identify which DB(inside my five VM) will be allowed for GRT.

As windows agent is free and I can do files/folder level GRT.

For example how does BE 2012 identify the different between MS SQL and AD.

Thanks.

...because if the Agent that you license detects Active Directory or SQL, it's going to know that it can. If the application doesn't support GRT, then the agent wouldn't have been encoded for that. It's simple...check to see which of your applications support GRT...if they don't then the agent won't.

So basically when you take the Hyper-V backups with Application GRT enabled it will show you the GRT for all the application that you have listed above except Oracle. Which means it will show GRT for AD, SQL, Sharepoint.

Hi,

I got..

That.. If I taken a single application license..I will able to do granular restore of AD, Exchange, MSSQL...

My question is not that...

My question is:-

If I take only one application license...

Which application will it be possible to restore ...

Is AD granular recovey possible

OR

MS SQL granular recovery possible...

OR

Is is MS SQL granular recovery possible..

AS I have install agent in all the above VMs..

Thanks...

Since you have only one agent licence, you choosse one of the above applications that you have described.  If you want to do GRT on all three of them, then you need to buy 2 more agent licences.
